Leather

ResinousLong longevity

Leather in perfumery is an accord, not a single material. Historically built from birch tar (a smoky, tarry distillation of birch bark), modern leather notes combine isobutyl quinoline (smoky, phenolic) with castoreum-like musks and woods. The result is smoky, tarry, and animalic — the 'saddle leather' note behind Knize Ten, Cuir de Russie, and Tom Ford Ombre Leather. Leather is a love-it-or-hate-it note that reads as mature and unisex.
