Lemon
CitrusShort longevity
Lemon oil is cold-pressed from the rind of Citrus limon, primarily grown in Sicily and California. It smells of sharp, bright, slightly zesty citrus — sharper than bergamot, less complex than yuzu. Lemon is the most-used citrus in functional perfumery (cleaners, candles, soaps) because it reads as 'clean' to almost every culture, which gives it a slight 'dish soap' association in fine perfumery. In fine fragrance it's the opening of 4711, Acqua di Parma Colonia, and almost every classical cologne.
