Grapefruit

Grapefruit oil is cold-pressed from the rind of Citrus paradisi, and it smells of bitter, juicy citrus with a characteristic faint sulfurous edge (from the mercaptan that gives grapefruit juice its slight 'catty' undertone). It's brighter and more bitter than orange or mandarin, which is why it reads as 'masculine' and 'sporty' — it's the opening of Terre d'Hermès (grapefruit + orange), Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, and many fresh masculines. Pink grapefruit is softer and less sulfurous than white.
