Cardamom
SpicyModerate longevity
Cardamom is the seed pod of Elettaria cardamomum, steam-distilled into an oil that smells of warm, sweet spice with a camphoraceous, almost eucalyptus edge. It's the most common 'spicy top' in oriental perfumery — the opening of Tom Ford Noir, Parfums de Marly Layton, and Penhaligon's Sartorial all rest on it. Cardamom is dose-sensitive: at low levels it's aromatic and clean, at high levels it's medicinal and curry-like.
