Orange Blossom
Orange blossom absolute is solvent-extracted from the same bitter-orange flowers that produce neroli (steam-distilled) and petitgrain (leaf-distilled). The absolute is greener, sweeter, and more indolic than neroli, with a hay-like, almost tuberose-adjacent richness. It's the defining note of Middle Eastern bridal perfumery and the heart of Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal, Perris Mondiale, and many Lush and Jo Malone compositions. Orange blossom is also the natural source of methyl anthranilate, which gives many florals their 'orange flower' character.
