Mint
Mint in perfumery is usually spearmint (Mentha spicata, sweet and herbal) or peppermint (Mentha piperita, sharper and more menthol). The oil smells of fresh, cool, slightly camphoraceous mint — the most 'cooling' aromatic in perfumery. Mint is the defining top note of fresh sport fragrances (Hermès Terre d'Hermès Eau Intense Vétiver, Paco Rabanne 1 Million Cologne) and a fixture of modern 'mint-julep' compositions. It's volatile and short-lived, but it gives an instant 'lift' to any composition.
